Australian Shepherd Puppies for Sale in Florida

The Australian shepherd is an American Kennel Club recognized breed that’s easily identifiable by its trademark spotted coat. While this breed got its start in Australia, it’s often remembered for being a major part of the cattle ranching scene. These medium-sized dogs usually grow to 18-21 inches for females and 20-23 inches for males. They weigh less than 65 pounds, with some females being as small as 40 pounds. Their long coats can come in just about every color, and they’re known to be high shedders, requiring daily brushing and regular grooming.

Breed Characteristics

As its name implies, the Australian shepherd is part of the herding group, which means they are high-energy dogs that need a lot of exercise and training to be at their best. They do well in active families who like to hike or bike outdoors, and they are extremely smart, which makes them a perfect fit for high-level obedience training or agility work. They’re also known to be champion Frisbee dogs. They need firm, consistent training from day one to keep their natural herding instincts, like nipping and nose bumping, in check, but they learn basic commands quickly and are easily house trained.
