Golden Doodle Puppies for Sale in Florida

The golden doodle has been one of the favorite designer crossbreeds for years, and it’s easy to see why. This breed has all the loyalty and good-natured personality of the golden retriever with all the of the spunk and intelligence of the poodle, and it makes a fantastic family pet. The poodle comes from France and can be either standard, miniature or toy size; however, it’s usually only the standard or miniature that is mixed with the golden retriever. While poodles bring to mind fancy grooming cuts, they were actually bred as water retrievers and are part of the sporting group. Golden retrievers are also sporting water dogs, which means the golden doodle is almost predestined for a life of fetch and puddle splashing.

Breed Characteristics

The golden doodle has a moderate energy level and does need a daily walk to satisfy its sporting side. These dogs are also intelligent and considered easy to train, and they generally don’t have stubborn or aggressive personalities, making them great family or first-time pets. They are affectionate and playful and needs lots of time with its owners to be happy, which means they do best in families where someone is home with them most of the day.

Depending on the size of the poodle parent, golden doodles can grow to be 30-45 pounds and between 21-26 inches tall, which makes them medium to large size as adults. They have an almost Muppet-like appearance and large expressive eyes. This cross was originally bred to take advantage of the poodle’s curly, fluffy coat and create a nonshedding version of the golden retriever, and while many of these puppies will be low to no shedders, it is possible for a first-generation cross to still have the golden retriever’s heavy shedding gene. If so, these dogs will require regular brushing, but if the puppy has the curly poodle coat, keeping them shaved to avoid mats is all the maintenance they require. Golden doodles can come in nearly any color combination, and possibilities usually hinge on the color of the poodle parent, which can be brown, white, blue, tan or black.

Golden doodles are known for their even temperaments, which make them very well suited to family life, especially if it includes life with other dogs or children. They are incredibly intelligent, which means they pick up behaviors and training easily. While this can make house training and basic obedience a breeze, these dogs can sometimes think they’re smarter than their owners and end up with a stubborn streak if they don’t have consistent discipline and boundaries. They are also prone to barking, which can be great if you’re looking for a watchdog, but if they’re left alone for long periods of time, it can graduate to an obsessive level. This is a breed that needs to be around their family as much as possible. And while they definitely let you know when people are at the door, it’s more of a welcoming bark because this breed knows no strangers and thinks everyone is a friend. These pups have high energy levels — mostly thanks to the poodle side — and they will definitely need a daily walk or a long fetch session in a fenced-in yard to keep them healthy and happy.

Golden doodles, like most other crossbreeds, are generally healthy, enjoying the best characteristics of both parent breeds. They may be more prone to certain conditions such as dermatitis and allergies as well as hip dysplasia, but with regular vet checks and a proper diet, this breed usually lives to be around 10-14 years old.

If you’re looking for a playful pup that will grow into a family companion, the golden doodle breed delivers. Contact Florida Puppies Online to let us help you find the right puppy for you.
