Teddy Bear Shichon Puppies for Sale in Florida

the more popular designer breeds, the Teddy Bear Shichon is an adorable, fluffy dog that gets its name from its toy-like appearance. These puppies are a first-generation cross of the bichon frise and shih tzu breeds, and they are also referred to as Zuchons and tzu frises. These dogs have the characteristics of both parent breeds, and mixes like this are often healthier overall than many purebred puppies. Both are toy breeds and have a rich history. The bichon frise is a French breed that was known for its quirky personality and love of doing tricks, and the shih tzu was a royal Chinese breed that was tasked with guarding the palace. While the Teddy Bear Shichon is a relatively new designer breed, it is quickly becoming one of the most popular.

Breed Characteristics

The Teddy Bear Shichon is a wonderful companion dog, and they’re known to be friendly and sociable, getting along well with everyone from small children to the elderly. They’re particularly good lapdogs, making them a favorite for someone who works from home or lives in an assisted living facility. They have a quirky, playful personality and can be taught to do tricks like walk on their hind legs easily. Because of their small size, they do very well in apartments and can usually get out their energy with a short walk around the block or a run around a fenced-in yard.

Because both parent breeds are part of the toy group, the Teddy Bear Shichon is also a small breed. While their adult size will depend heavily on the size of the parents, most Shichons grow to be around 9-12 inches tall and between 7-15 pounds. Miniature and teacup varieties may be even smaller. The Teddy Bear Shichon usually have a dense coat with that stuffed-animal fluffiness and can come in a full range of colors. However, almost all of them will have some white because of the bichon frise’s all-white coat. This breed doesn’t need much in the grooming department, but it’s best to keep them shaved to avoid the mats and tangles that can come from their fluffy, curly hair. They also do have the possibility of a longer, straighter coat if the puppy takes after the shih tzu side, but either way, they are very likely to be low to no shedding.

If their stuffed animal namesake is all about providing comfort to children, the Teddy Bear Shichon definitely brings this to life. These dogs are the ultimate affectionate breed, and they love nothing more than to be with and please their owners, which means training them is usually quite easy with some treats and lots of praise. They are very playful and intelligent and love to learn and perform tricks. Like most toy breeds, these pups have a moderate energy level, and they need about 20-30 minutes of daily exercise to be at their best. While this can be a walk around the block, they also do very well with a mentally stimulating training session or playing with toys in a family room or fenced-in yard. They also know when to call it a day and are known as fantastic lapdogs for those who just need a warm companion while watching TV.

As a mixed breed, the Teddy Bear Shichon is generally a happy, healthy dog, but they can be prone to some of the same issues as the parent breeds. These include arthritis and dental and eye problems, and they also need to be kept at a healthy weight to avoid undue stress on their joints. These dogs are known for their long life spans, which average 15-18 years, so proper veterinary care from the start is key.
